For many years I had a Windows "gaming desktop" along with a laptop I used "for work" that ran Linux Mint, because I wanted a laptop I couldn't easily use for gaming so I wouldn't get distracted, and I wanted to "learn more about computers" and be coolhttps://twitter.com/cstross/status/1267082229592870913?s=20 …

I gave up on it partly because I was lying earlier, when I said I wanted to "learn more about computers" what I meant was that I hoped someone seeing me running Linuxwould cause them to see me as attractive and intelligent and ask to sleep with me, and this has never occurred

"But Arthur, a gaming laptop for doing stuff like recording voiceover is actually a really bad idea, because the extra fans on the motherboard make the laptop extremely loud" Yeah okay that's a lesson learned for the future

Along similar (or maybe opposite, I dunno) lines, I used to be a loyal iPhone user for many years until eventually the 10% surcharge on anything that has a Lightning cable instead of a USB cable also finally wore out my patience

My Linux laptop is a brick sitting on my desk, because upgrading to a recent version of Ubuntu literally made it impossible for me to get at any of my old stuff. So now I have a Windows 10 laptop and haven't looked back.

It's free, they say, if you can get it to run,
The geeks say "Hey, that's half the fun!"
Yeah, well I got a girlfriend and things to get done
The Linux O.S. sucks!

A friend pointed out to me recently that all I need Windows for is a game platform, since all my other software is open-source stuff that runs on Linux. And I'm literally taking classes on it right now. But I still can't imagine trying to make it my primary working environment.

Run win desktop/lin laptop as well but keep a 2nd ssd w/ windows in the laptop so I can do stuff I can't do on linux(mainly proprietary stuff like Photoshop, Ableton) when I'm away. I find it better to have the laptop be mainly for work so I can literally switch off work when WFH

I don't run mint tho. It's the current os of choice for work but for me as sysadmin arch has treated me better with having current versions of programs and not having major upgrades but just continually updating everything. major upgrades of everything Ubuntu-based can be a pita
