Some people say that trans people shouldn't have rights. Some other people, like you, stop short of that, and just say that those people should be allowed to say that. You seem to think that the second group hurts trans people less, so we should be grateful for you. You're wrong.

Trans people are NOT special. I wish you could learn that. And you have no right not to have your feelings hurt, especially in politics. And if the lot of you weren't made of marshmallow, YOU wouldn't fear being hurt either.

"Trans people are NOT special." Really. The courts in more than half the U.S. states still allow the "trans panic" defense for assault and murder. Trans people have higher suicide, homelessness, and unemployment rates. We're still the go-to easy punchline for every hack writer.

None of this is improved when you fire Maya Forstater or deplatform Meghan Murphy or make space in your movement for the ghoul that is Jessica Yaniv. And don't talk about "punchlines" when "Punch A TERF" is your unofficial battle cry.

You can't make gains in your rights by removing other people's rights. And I'm only glad that in scouring trans YouTube I've learned that there are plenty of trans people who agree.

Every oppressed minority group has members who embrace respectability politics, who want to be "one of the good ones", and some are able to leverage that for personal profit. It doesn't work for the group as a whole.

And every movement has it's irrational radicals. People who, say, mob a library and threaten violence against a woman who disagrees with trans women in women's spaces.

That is a debatable issue. You can be pro, you can be con, but by what right do you set up mock guillotines outside the library hosting the event?

Freedom of speech, the same right by which they hold the event

Hmm... chopping off heads and en threatening to punch women. We've finally found some freedom of expression you endorse! Your tolerance of the Charlie Hebdo massacre is REALLY coming into focus now :)

Yes, we've established that you define the freedom of expression of anyone you don't like as "censorship" even though it's people exercising the exact same right It's a common and hypocritical move

You really like the (apocryphal) Voltaire quote about defending people's right to say whatever the fuck they want no matter how offensive it is right Well you're not defending my speech against free speech despite how offensive it is to you Checkmate, etc

The hilarious thing about the sheer level of PIETY and SANCTIMONY around
#JeSuisCharlie If you really believe in the necessity of toppling all idols and using satire to mock everything people hold sacred isn't the most obvious target Charlie Hebdo themselves1 reply 3 retweets 18 likes - Show replies
