Being raised Jewish and hearing non-Jews adopt ”schmooze”, etc., is a bit jarring and doesn't usually have quite the flavor and context as when someone Jewish uses it. But there's no way to stop it, so I'm not gonna try.

I've heard that "schmooze" in its original form was a positive thing, meaning "shoot the breeze" or "make small talk", and now in English it's only used in the negative, cynical sense - "networking" as a practical thing or "chatting someone up" for an ulterior goal

If I really wanted to hot take it I'd call it subtle antisemitism, taking a Yiddish word for friendly, amiable socializing and using it to mean insincere manipulation because that's how they see Jewish people
