Someday I'll post in full my semi-trolling take that animation should have made all live-action film obsolete decades ago, in much the same way that cinema should have made live theatre obsolete https://twitter.com/loudmouthjulia/status/1264781496688226306 …

Or, at least, you can have animation as one end of the spectrum and live theatre as the other end but live-action film is an awkward hybrid of the two media that should not exist (With nonsense like the "live-action" Lion King remake I even kind of actually believe this)

I guess I would say there's nothing wrong with an 'awkward hybrid' medium. Endgame has both scenes of people talking in rooms that you could call 'theater-like' and scenes that are essentially animated with heads spliced in, and I don't think that's a bad way to tell a story

I think the very real non-trolly version of this take is just that people need to realize that heavy CGI movies even with motion capture are essentially animated, and the animators/artists get way too little credit

Yes, the serious reason to post this troll take is to point out how badly the VFX industry and VFX artists are getting fucked over even though they literally create most of what you see in your favorite "live-action" movies on a computer

In 2015, I learned that between 1200-1500 VFX artists worked on ANT-MAN, and about 4000 VFX artists worked on AVENGERS. Because the end credit roll is restricted to 6.5 minutes, at least half of VFX artists do not get their names listed in the end credits.pic.twitter.com/mYoCeuFl2V
