Nah, Luther absolutely gutted the momentum of figures like Erasmus by looking superficially similar to the Christian humanists while severely undercutting their actual messages.

And Luther, specifically, was in many ways a social archconservative, he just also hated the whole cultural space that Christianity had built up and wanted to purge it with fire, which *looked* like "yay, clean up the corruption!" but ended up gutting folk & cultural religion
