It seems like a lot less trouble for one guy who KNOWS what the real world is actually like to go pop by and grab the penicillin as opposed to a blind girl who will be very very confused by everything

Like ONE elder could be like, "I WILL BE BRAVE and go into the woods and find medicine!" and he just pops into the ranger station, promises not to look at a newspaper, and comes back

I have a similar problem with Snowpiercer. If they have an infinite energy supply, why cram everyone in an energy wasting, cramped, train, when you can use it to heat & power a set area, grow food, and gradually expand with the population?

Though at least in snow piercer I don’t feel like it’s supposed to make sense, as it’s a thinly veiled allegory for our society anyway. Whereas the village... is the village meant to signify anything?

Yes in Snowpiercer Wilford is straight up insane and the point of the whole setting is it's canonically based on Wilford's deranged worldview and does not actually make sense
