So after sleeping on this I just want to add that you could kind of encapsulate this in how Freddie Mercury and David Bowie are treated as queer icons but Kurt Cobain isn't Like, I love Freddie Mercury but I would never be able to emulate that kind of energy Cobain, I can dohttps://twitter.com/Nymphomachy/status/1263980060412911618 …

Arthur, David Bowie was an out bisexual who was constantly erased by the media
-
He came out as such, then went back on it, then doubled down on that walkback when confronted about it againhttps://slate.com/human-interest/2016/01/was-david-bowie-dead-at-69-gay-the-glam-rocker-had-a-complicated-relationship-with-queerness.html …

Cobain was bisexual or at least bicurious, he talked about it in interviews and stuff, but definitely preferred women We can't KNOW what his sexuality was but we also were deprived of the opportunity to get any updates on it after 1994

I mean based on just what we hear about the kind of child Kurt Cobain was (pretty much 100% "sensitive smol bean with a Ritalin prescription") it's hard for someone like me to imagine he grew up to be exclusively into chicks

I think it's a huge mistake to assume, in both instances, but especially Cobain's, that the genderfucking was purely performative.
