Question based on random pre work racing thoughts: there's a native English speaker accent that says "day" like "die" but I forget what it is. Anyone recall where from?

This is how people who speak one of the standard English dialects hear Cockney English or a strong Australian accent

Yeah I think I'm actually remembering my high school crush who shot me down sophomore year, who I probably was in to SPECIFICALLY because her Australian accent made it sound like she was saying "die" a lot

I had no idea about this particular one, learning how others hear your accent can be weird. Not that mines a strong one

It's because we think of an "Australian accent" as the highly rural Crocodile Dundee accent that most Americans can't tell the difference between an educated/upper-class Australian accent and a British accent

Possibly because many American's main exposure to different accents in the 90s was The Simpsons, and none of the accents on there were accurate at all.

The Australian booting ceremony, however, is quite accurate.

Pretty sure their only research for the Australia episode was watching Crocodile Dundee

They certainly didn't actually watch Young Einstein by Yahoo Serious because nobody did

And yet it's one of Australia's most successful films
