Arthur Chu Retweeted Joss Prior 🌈 *High-Grade Goods* 🌈

The TERFs have had this "quietly removing likes" conspiracy theory for a while I think they don't actually realize that you get to "relike" stuff after a certain amount of time passes (and add to the total likes by liking it twice) and this is an intended featurehttps://twitter.com/joss_prior/status/1263603191448580097 …

I don’t think that’s how it works. You can go back through your own “likes” to see any tweet you’ve ever liked. They don’t expire like avocados.

I think the list of tweets you've liked on your account and the list of accounts who have liked a tweet are separate and don't stay in sync with each other The former doesn't expire, the latter does

This is just reading tea leaves, of course, but I just don't think it works that way. It certainly wouldn't explain being able to "re-like" a tweet after time. I am *pretty* sure that Twitter distinguishes between liking a tweet and liking a retweet. That may explain some of it.

I can literally directly search for a tweet I liked a month ago and re-like it right now

I'm pretty sure @Tuplet is right and the field attached to the individual tweet tracking likes just drops the list of accounts that liked the tweet after a certain period of time and keeps the number

This would explain why tweets that have like 100k likes don't clog up the app when you load them

Seriously, think about it Have you EVER searched an old tweet and seen the highlighted red heart icon showing you liked it and therefore can only now unlike it It's impossible, it doesn't exist The red heart ONLY shows on recent tweets

dude, I can't remember what I ate for breakfast this morning, I don't know which tweets I liked two years ago.

I became certain this was how it worked because I kept adding on to one of those "Like this tweet for an unpopular opinion" tweets
