Wait really? I never knew this either! Oh that makes so much sense why people's pinned tweets have been showing an RT with no like!

Um... Are we just not all thinking that just more trans people joined the hashtag?

I kinda think trans Twitter is just a destination for trans (women in particular) and TERFs are just silly.

I never knew this! I thought my account had some maximum number of likes or something, and that it removed old likes as I liked new tweets. I’m glad to know this!

Is that why I keep getting confused because tweets I swear I liked are likable? Is this actually intended or does Twitter just not want to bother retaining all the individualized like data in a manner that’s quick to query?

Oh wow if this is true this is a feature of twitter I never knew existed yet it explains a lot.

Probably also keeps you from having to hang a million records off a tweet recording everybody who liked it. Just remember N of them and when your forgotten you can like it again. At least, that is consistent with the observable behavior.

I'd have thought they'd very much want to retain that data. A crucial part of the users as the product, building up the record of their liked tweets.

I don’t think that’s how it works. You can go back through your own “likes” to see any tweet you’ve ever liked. They don’t expire like avocados.
-
I think the list of tweets you've liked on your account and the list of accounts who have liked a tweet are separate and don't stay in sync with each other The former doesn't expire, the latter does
