He addressed this post to a man (Theo Usherwood) It was neither singling out women nor saying this is a universal condition It is talking specifically about people who are privileged enough to have the money to pay a cleaner, and is obviously true

It’s not “obviously true” if the person, whether male or female, is both trying to work from home and home school.

Yes, it is, because if your budget was flush enough that you could afford the expense of paying a cleaner, then you can cut back on earning money now

Oh, it doesn't? Money doesn't accumulate in the UK? It's impossible for wealthier people to have savings to draw upon? Who does and doesn't have a cleaner in their house is assigned by a random algorithm at the start of every day and has nothing to do with income and assets?

It's not easy, to be sure, but life in a pandemic generally isn't easy It is, however, possible to do so without being a monster, while simply continuing to hire domestic staff to come into your house is not

I hate to say it but everything about Sarah's "side" of that conversation was this vast, obnoxious, utterly un-self-aware whine "IT'S HARD! IT'S NOT FAIR! IT SUCKS SO MUCH" Yes! It sucks for everyone! Including EVERYONE LESS RICH THAN YOU ARE

I don't fucking care how you find the time handle the cleaning while quarantining It doesn't matter You can pick any one -- drive yourself into the ground doing everything, quit your job and go into massive credit card debt, quit cleaning and let the roaches multiply

Just don't pick the solution of "hire an outside cleaner and transfer my problems to them" Because right now what you're transferring is a risk of death, and an increase in the total infection rate that will lengthen this crisis for EVERYONE IN THE COUNTRY

The only important thing about this conversation is OJ drawing a line in the sand and saying the "hire a cleaner" solution is completely unacceptable And backing it up by saying cleaners are and always have been a luxury service, BECAUSE MOST PEOPLE NEVER HAD THEM ANYWAY
