The really shitty thing about this is that "grooming" refers to a very specific very bad thing, it means actually approaching an actual child and trying to manipulate them into a sexual relationship It's not something you just generally do to a subculturehttps://twitter.com/ZJemptv/status/1263177055858053123 …

I mean shit it's not a word you should be applying even to the general idea of "inappropriately sexualizing children in media" or "encouraging unsafe behaviors among children" Those are bad things but they're not the same thing as *grooming*

And when you escalate the definition of "grooming" all the way to "having opinions or beliefs that, in my opinion, would make it easier for someone in theory to victimize children if your ideas became policy" you're totally lost It's just thoughtlessly using incendiary rhetoric

They've diluted this word down to meaninglessness and just spray it around in a shotgun blast at everything The Concerned Parents of this movement think basic Internet privacy legislation is "grooming" (the state can't theoretically track down and stop all predators)

Talking about sexuality anywhere a child could hear is "grooming", which means all sex ed beyond just the basic facts of reproduction is "grooming" What's most disturbing is their insistence that anyone saying anything that undermines parental authority is "grooming"

Anything that empowers anyone under 18 to stand up to their parents, in their view, must be banned because it could be used by predators outside the home to get access to children Because, after all, the people who rape kids are never the parents themselves

Glinner's TERFy friends are like one step away from just becoming the angry right-wing libertarians who don't want CPS to exist at all "Stop these meddlers from breaking up families, trust parents to know what's best for their children"

Replying to @arthur_affect
Oh they absolutely want them to break up families. Just as long as it's a certain kind of family
