Liberalism gets a pretty bad rap for the political philosophy all of the people everyone supposedly agrees are bad (Nazis, t*nkies) are more opposed to than each other

When people say they're hard left and hate the Democrats but also hate t*nkies, I... am skeptical

I consider myself "far left". I hate the Democrats, though one could be forgiven for not knowing that, given how often I vote for them. I also hate tankies. I don't think these are contradictory positions, because I hate them for different reasons.

You're probably not in the group I'm referring to, of people who truly seem to believe that the Democrats are more the cause of society's ills than the Republicans

I honestly have no idea, I'm just being pedantic for the fun of it

I think you can argue that it was at least ambiguous through the Eisenhower administration, with the racist right wing factions in the country steadily leaving the Democrats to join the Republicans from 1960 on.

Yeah even in the 80s and 90s, when Elizabeth Warren was a Republican, the definition of what Democrats and Republicans were like varied greatly regionally

It's been a slow and steady transition but the current idea of the political parties mapping directly onto poles of the ideological spectrum is very much a 21st century thing

Which is strange, because it seems like by far the most rational way to have political parties evolve. But I think there was a lot more muddiness between 'issues' and 'ideology' that led to clunkier coalitions, plus regional interests.
