Okay I know yall are bored with me talking about ROMs but one thing I keep noticing as I dig through old non-import Japanese titles is that a lot of the lost gems I'm finding have... female protagonists. Like a lot a lot. Did you know there was a LUNAR game with one? I didn't

I remember playing the hell out of Valis III during my formative years... Def remember wishing I could be those three badass ladies when I was younger. So awesome.

Interestingly the first VALIS, much like BATTLE GOLFER YUI, does that thing where the female protagonist's girl-crush winds up becoming her enemy and then dying tragically That weird nineties DEVILMAN LADY style of doomed sapphic friendships

VALIS, of course, actually literally is named for a Philip K Dick novel

I ask because there's some kind of weird association with the word Valis is the name of both the magic sword in VALIS: THE FANTASM SOLDIER and a country in RECORD OF LODOSS WAR, which are otherwise unrelated aside from being eighties fantasy anime properties

Yes, VALIS, which was published in 1981, was Philip K. Dick's big magnum opus about his autobiography and bizarre drug-fueled spiritual beliefs VALIS is his word for his idea of God (Vast Active Living Intelligence System)

Everything in nerd fandom from the 80s named "VALIS" is probably a reference
