The entire golfing tournament was just an elaborate gambit to gather data on Yui in the field, and strengthen her in anticipation of the final battle with her counterpart Ran to determine who will become the new cyborg leader of the sinister Dark Hazzard We are but a puppetpic.twitter.com/XGGBaMvkh9

So, the entire game, every time the protagonist has been challenged to a golfing match, her catchphrase has been the kind of awesome "you will be burned with black flames" which is because her codename is "Black Fire" to distinguish her from her counterpart "Shadow Lightning"pic.twitter.com/zvN4sQkPkq

through the possessions she's collected throughout the game She has a flute that she found on the corpse of Professor G, and after much hesitation, you have the choice to blow the flute, or break it If you blow it, you get this ending. And yet the world refused to change.pic.twitter.com/vEdQ7kaqh8

I compared this story to Philip K Dick's "Impostor", which is all about this one lonely man's quest to prove he's real and not a robot duplicate made by aliens to impersonate him The ending has him realize he IS an impostor, of course

And that the aliens planted a nuclear warhead inside him rigged to detonate at the exact moment his brain fully accepts this realization
