I think it only makes sense for Wookiepedia, which I also believe originated it, in which the present day would be "now" thanks to the framing of the franchise...

All of that makes sense and is noncontradictory if you use the convention that the last diegetic moment is the present day.

Wookieepedia, which originated this practice, did not follow this rule at all (Star Wars expanded universe canon at that point included Star Wars Legacy, a distant sequel in an era when all the "currently alive" main characters were dead)
