'TLDR we have 2 boys already (3 and 4yo) and wife wants to try for a girl, but parenting the boys has made me realise I don't like parenting at all, and I don't think I could do it again.' How did you not realize this after child number one. Slow on the uptake I guess.
Well, the sort of parenting you do for a three-year-old and the sort for a newborn is pretty different, and the first two were close together. I can see it taking a couple years to move from "this first bit is hell" to "this whole process is hell"
I've seen a take that this is how you get trapped, you get past the Terrible Twos and there's a lull in how difficult the kid is -- they can now mostly feed themselves and otherwise don't cause trouble -- and you're like "That's over! Let's get started with another one!"
Because you're stupid and you didn't think ahead, and now in ten years you'll simultaneously be raising a 15-year-old and a 13-year-old and you will desperately want to die
Like it's a big expense, to be sure, but if they really cared about this they should have started with sex-selection IVF Because it's a much smaller expense than the total expense of *having another kid*
I have opinions on non-medical sex selection (and some things that get called "medical"), but hey. If she really wants a daughter, maybe she'll get lucky with the existing kids.
Yeah I mean really having strong gender preferences is probably something the parents should work out in therapy and not let it affect their kids either way
