...I wonder if there's such a thing as a female himbo?

This was meant to be an obviously airheaded question to ask, implying that I, the person asking, was being the female counterpart to a himbo in the moment. But then the replies taking it seriously made it even better and than the shitpost vibe I was going for, and it's wholesome.

I earnestposted about this before, that the whole point of "himbo" memes is that sexism in our culture means it's not symmetrical A woman calling a man a himbo doesn't have the same edge of cruelty and contempt as a man actually calling a woman a bimbo

The irony of the whole situation is that "bimbo" means "boy" in Italian and it ORIGINALLY MEANT "himbo" It was a word used in slang to tease an adult man for being childish or silly Then misogynists appropriated it for women they hated Everything goes in circles

It's like how "girlfriend" started out specifically as a way for women to describe their intimate friendships with other women and then men stole it

I feel like the male equivalent to bimbo in the 90s was dumb jock, both being the "conventionally attractive but not smart" stereotype, but even that implies athletic talent for one and not the other. Himbo seems more positive since it usually includes being kind as well as swole

Yeah the actual definition of "bimbo" is "child", the original point of mocking a person as a "bimbo" was calling them naive and innocent, it's just that applied to women rather than men it instantly got a lot uglier
