Like if I were making a joke about what the worst thing you could do to replace the Tonys would be I would say "A sing-along of Rent" But a sing-along of Rent is actually better than a sing-along of Grease

It's like -- any axis you could move along would make it a better choice A sing-along of The Sound of Music would be better, a sing-along of Chicago would be better, a sing-along of fucking Cats would be better

Grease sits at this nadir point of being the most basic *and* most problematic *and* most generally annoying *And*, from a time period POV, old enough that it feels ridiculously out-of-touch but not so old that it feels legitimately educational

I'm not even saying that I dislike the existence of Grease as a show but you get what I mean right Like the primary joke here is "Let's replace the Tonys with a sing-along of some old Broadway chestnut" and then the writer's room stayed up all night picking the correct punchline

CATS is always worse. It defines worst.

Cats is very silly, and strings a bunch of I Am songs together for the flimsiest of reasons, but it doesn't have the nasty messages baked into it that Grease has.

They could've chosen Spiderman: Turn Off the Dark and I hope their objectively incorrect selection haunts them for the rest of time.

Some possible candidates for worse choices: * The King & I, with Scarlett Johansson playing the King. * South Pacific but with additional material added to underscore the "racism! don't teach it!" lesson.
-
* The Mikado with absolutely no changes at all from the original, including all the original lyrics from "They Never Would Be Missed."
