I hate when a work of fiction gives someone or something an incredibly unlikely name just so they can make a "pun" based on the "coincidence" they created in the first place Like YOU naming a girl "Love" so they can keep on saying "I'd do anything for Love" or "Love changes you"https://twitter.com/JohnDiesattheEn/status/1261433717479944199 …

Roald Dahl did that with Veruca Salt. It could have been a nice Easter egg that her first name is an obscure word for a foot wart, but then he has Willy Wonka say to her, "Hey, your first name is an obscure word for a wart on your foot!"

I think he had to put that in because Americans didn't actually know the word "verruca" at all Like there's a porn star named "Veruca James" who took that name because she thought it was just a quirky girl's name from the book and I'm amazed she still hasn't changed it

But by putting it in he undercuts the whole point of naming her that. Instead of "lol, in the reader's world the obnoxious brat's name actually means wart" it's "why is that her name if even people in that world recognize that it's weird?"
