I think he had to put that in because Americans didn't actually know the word "verruca" at all Like there's a porn star named "Veruca James" who took that name because she thought it was just a quirky girl's name from the book and I'm amazed she still hasn't changed it

But by putting it in he undercuts the whole point of naming her that. Instead of "lol, in the reader's world the obnoxious brat's name actually means wart" it's "why is that her name if even people in that world recognize that it's weird?"
