The point is that the cleaning and childcare still get done by women anyway, just different, poorer and less privileged women I'm not saying outsourcing these tasks makes you a bad person but it's ridiculous to call it a "feminist" issue as though it advances "women" as a grouphttps://twitter.com/PeteNewbon/status/1261223010377367557 …

Fuck's sake is everyone just being wilfully stupid here You know why it's so much easier to hire a maid or a driver or some other gofer to do menial tasks for you now than 25 years ago right It's not that you're succeeding so well and getting paid more OTHER PEOPLE ARE POORER

God I've spent a lot of time defending people from accusations of shallow #girlboss bourgeois feminism when it really does seem like it's just shitty dudes with an axe to grind But this is such a pure example I have to surrender, this absolutely is Karen feminism

People in that fucking thread all "You're just mad at women have economic power now, that we have cool high paid jobs and don't have to slave in the kitchen, you're trying to hold back our progress" IT'S NOT BECAUSE YOU'RE RICHER IT'S BECAUSE THEY'RE POORER

If wealth and power went up for women across the board, you wouldn't be able to hire a cleaner, because people wouldn't have to do that as a job Because it's a shitty job You are actively in denial about this obvious fact

That's why the number of people employed as domestic servants went down so precipitously through the 20th century Because that actually was a time period when inequality was going down and average wages were going up Come on this isn't difficult or obscure analysis

Fuck The idea that rich women hiring poor women to do "women's work" for them is feminist liberation The Victorian era was an extremely liberated time then, as was the antebellum South, and the Middle Ages, and ancient Rome

Any minute now they're going to say that the stigma against wet nurses is misogynistic and if we brought back the idea of letting you hire someone else to breastfeed your baby instead of using formula successful women could just succeed more without guilt

At least there would be something to argue over if it were a traditionally "female" household task being outsourced to mostly poor men (though IDK how that would come about). But it's just...women with money moving work onto poorer women. No net gain for "women" as a class!

And we're also ignoring the whole thing where in a society with a high amount of menial domestic labor available it's completely normalized for wealthy single men to pay a woman to do "wife/girlfriend" tasks for him
