I see Owen is showing his usual consideration for feminist discourse

good grief, that's an *amazingly* bad take. I'm glad he's got time to do the cleaning, but there are plenty of people* with kids and older family members to care for, plus homeschooling responsibilities etc etc *women

The objection is to Owen saying that people have time. Every family I know with a cleaner has pair their cleaner throughout, has no intention of bringing them back yet, but are exhausted and don’t need to be patronised.

If they lose sight of the fact that they're still better off and always were better off than the people they were paying to do the cleaning then they absolutely do need to be patronized

There's something maybe on the very narrowest point: people don't necessarily have more time for chores because of quarantines. If she'd stayed on that point, we wouldn't be having this whole discussion.

There's no argument in this about whether it's helpful to have other people clean your house. It's extremely helpful, that's why people will pay for it. The thing is, of course, the global pandemic.

That is exactly what the argument was. It was about Owen suggesting people* have time to do it themselves. *women

I literally don't understand this Do you think that single men never hire cleaning ladies, like is that just not a thing in your world

What about single men who hire cleaners precisely because they refuse to learn to do "women's work" Is that not, like, textbook patriarchy, is that not the most problematic position to take here Why would you assume Owen wasn't talking to those guys
