I see Owen is showing his usual consideration for feminist discourse

good grief, that's an *amazingly* bad take. I'm glad he's got time to do the cleaning, but there are plenty of people* with kids and older family members to care for, plus homeschooling responsibilities etc etc *women

The objection is to Owen saying that people have time. Every family I know with a cleaner has pair their cleaner throughout, has no intention of bringing them back yet, but are exhausted and don’t need to be patronised.

If they lose sight of the fact that they're still better off and always were better off than the people they were paying to do the cleaning then they absolutely do need to be patronized

By “they”, you mean women. I know I earn more than our cleaner. Why do you object to women paying other women to clean?

I don't object to it, I object to people concern trolling about how it should be treated as an "essential service" and we should allow the infection rate to rise again by sending them back into people's houses

That is not what the debate is. Women objected to OJ’s “they have time to do it themselves”. Many of us are time starved during this pandemic. And we know full well about how the patriarchy works. There are plenty of men on here suggesting having a cleaner at all is disgusting.

Owen never said anything about "women" in his post, and he was specifically attacking and critiquing a man for making this argument

Like I just don't know how to respond to this, I'm gobsmacked at how ingrained it is to blame Owen for everything he says If Sarah actually has less free time now than she did before because her husband and kids are dumping tasks on her, that's ON THEM, not on Owen

Don't shoot the messenger here The fact that the lava came out even hotter when Owen was like "Well why don't Nathan and the kids help out" "OH YOU'RE SAYING I'M A BAD WIFE AND A BAD MOTHER YOU'RE CRITICIZING MY FAMILY YOU'RE CRITICIZING MY MARRIAGE"

Hey I don't fucking know about all that man I'm just saying there's four bodies living in that house and that's a challenge to the idea that you "need" to pay some immigrant woman to clean it for you

Absolutely! I am quarantined with my parents and sister. My Mom keeps remarking how much more spare time she has, since I'm doing most of the cleaning while my Dad & sis are running the few errands.
