I feel like it's like this core part of these people's identity that everyone has a duty to have children for the sake of society, they're Christlike heroes for taking this burden upon themselves, and those of us who are shirking this duty are freeloading off of themhttps://twitter.com/OwenJones84/status/1260639247859580930 …

I don't even fucking know Like it does go beyond just being TERFs I mean Sarah already hated Owen over "trans issues" sure but she was moved to jump in apparently because any criticism of middle-class moms for doing anything makes her see blinding red

Like if you don't agree she's a fucking hero for everything she does for her family -- leaving aside that a fuckton of people also struggle a whole lot more to provide for their families, including the working-class women whose exploitation she's justifying -- you're a misogynist

Jfc it's not Owen Jones' fault you're miserable Take it out on your own husband, where it belongs, or on Boris Johnson for not giving people adequate aid so you have to keep on attacking trans people and Nathan has to keep on streaming Minecraft to keep the bills paid

It's just, Ditum specifically loudly identified as "radicalized by Mumsnet" and enthusiastically promoted glosswitch's thread about how Mumsnet and motherhood taught her that real feminism entailed hating trans women, that it's defined by the Holy Burden of the Womb

And it's just... I dunno The grievances aren't made clear and specific, it's this inchoate ball of frustration and resentment and rage, and as a result it ends up with attacking targets indiscriminately and picking the easiest ones

Like... I do think it's fundamentally absurd that Mumsnet evolved into TERFnet and that literally all they talk about on there is Nazi conspiracy theories about trans women destroying society But I don't think it's *entirely* arbitrary

Owen's comment did not take place in a vacuum, but can you *see* your own gymnastics here? He said people have more time now. That's annoying to a lot of people. Just because Mumsnet also find it annoying, doesn't mean that the only basis for being annoyed by it is being a TERF.

Owen said that anyone who has the privilege to pay someone to clean their house for them is capable of going without that service That is an entirely fair thing to say on the face of it and turning it into "misogyny" is the gymnastics

I mean fuck you know that a ton of the people who hire cleaners aren't women and don't have kids, it's just wealthy single men, right If *I* started complaining "God I'm a mess since quarantine, I need a cleaning lady more than ever" would you let it slide

Maybe not, but I would not attack you on the grounds that people who can afford cleaners (whatever that really means in detail) in general have more time than ever now. Because that's obviously not generally the case.
