I feel like it's like this core part of these people's identity that everyone has a duty to have children for the sake of society, they're Christlike heroes for taking this burden upon themselves, and those of us who are shirking this duty are freeloading off of themhttps://twitter.com/OwenJones84/status/1260639247859580930 …

Like if you don't agree she's a fucking hero for everything she does for her family -- leaving aside that a fuckton of people also struggle a whole lot more to provide for their families, including the working-class women whose exploitation she's justifying -- you're a misogynist

Jfc it's not Owen Jones' fault you're miserable Take it out on your own husband, where it belongs, or on Boris Johnson for not giving people adequate aid so you have to keep on attacking trans people and Nathan has to keep on streaming Minecraft to keep the bills paid

It's just, Ditum specifically loudly identified as "radicalized by Mumsnet" and enthusiastically promoted glosswitch's thread about how Mumsnet and motherhood taught her that real feminism entailed hating trans women, that it's defined by the Holy Burden of the Womb

And it's just... I dunno The grievances aren't made clear and specific, it's this inchoate ball of frustration and resentment and rage, and as a result it ends up with attacking targets indiscriminately and picking the easiest ones

Like... I do think it's fundamentally absurd that Mumsnet evolved into TERFnet and that literally all they talk about on there is Nazi conspiracy theories about trans women destroying society But I don't think it's *entirely* arbitrary

Somehow this is the direction middle-class maternal angst evolved toward This anguished cry of "How can you call me privileged? My life SUCKS, and I DESERVE to be able to mock trans women/underpay my immigrant cleaning lady/abuse my kid when frustrated"

It's not my place to psychoanalyze this shit but it's just so transparently deeply fucked up Like they really believe "feminism is what I, or someone who reminds me of me, wants to do, and misogyny is giving me a hard time over doing it"

And it's not even like I don't, in the broad sense, think they have a point Yeah, all of society does depend on the idea of people having kids, and we just assume that it's gonna happen naturally and don't give people much support for it

But reacting to it by rapidly going full trad is so messed up and self-destructive Like they're out there saying any attack on the idea of the profession of a cleaner or a maid is an attack on women because if it stops being paid work *only women will do it*, as a *rule*

I'm not a middle-class mom or a TERF, and I normally like Owen (apart from that wobble when he renounced Corbyn in 2017 I think it was), but it ground the bejesus out of my gears when he started saying that people have more time now. Many, MANY people do not, children or no.

Well, yeah, and a lot of people whose lives are harder now are people who work as cleaners, and whose lives will become even harder if they or someone in their house gets sick
