The absurdity of the premise of Snowpiercer is *part of the point*, like in-universe it's about how Wilford is a lunatic and the society he built makes no sense Thematically it's about the madness of capitalism, all this furious motion to no real purpose that we just accepthttps://twitter.com/AlexandraErin/status/1260677504639131649 …

There's not actually a better explanation for why Snowpiercer takes place on a train than "the story the author wanted to tell depends on it" but it's still more solid than why all the vampires kept going back to high school.

The fact that the train *has to keep moving* for everything else to work, even though it's just going in a big circle and never makes any stops - it's completely discarding the purpose of a train, to take people from one place to another, in favor of the *aesthetic* of a train

Because the creator of the Snowpiercer is just a fucking freak who's obsessed with trains for their own sake and sheer bad luck put him in charge of the world (No offense to my train loving friends)

Anyway it's not a very subtle metaphor but if you tried to make it more "realistic" you would destroy the whole point of the story It's a mad story meant to reflect the madness in our world

Right now they're talking about sacrificing human lives just to make the Dow go back up, to make the train go faster, as though that means something as a tradeoff against mass death "RUMBLE RUMBLE RATTLE RATTLE THE ENGINE CAN NEVER DIE"

I never thought I'd say it but... Snowpiercer was too subtle.
