The 90s teen slang in TMNT 1990 doesn't bother me at all really It's self aware and intentional, they know they're being goofy when they say it and they're doing it on purpose, the way real people do The "Bossa nova!... Chevy Nova?" joke is an all-timerhttps://twitter.com/FilmCritHULK/status/1260140970814787586 …

God that movie was such a gift as a kid All the characters are smart and witty and funny in ways that make sense for them They all genuinely enjoy bantering, it feels like a real family that have known each other for years

My bias is that slang comes off as cringey when you give it unrealistic weight, you act like it really is this alternate language teenagers speak and they aren't aware they're doing it The best damn thing being aware they're *making up* slang, playing with words, having fun

Donnie and Casey trading insults going through the alphabet, as a game, while fixing the truck is such an amazing scene Especially for a kids' movie at the time, to just throw it in there and trust that we'd get it

It's like why the best damn thing from Mean Girls was the "make fetch happen" thing, like it was an instant meme with all the teens who saw it
