Touhou and Harsune Miku are both heavily reliant on fans. I'm not sure I agree at all with the negative take implied in the original tweet. Its absolutely bonkers that collaborative story telling, its original form, would be seen as sinister. Please corporation, control it all

I think it's less that collaborative storytelling is sinister and more that it's not compensated. It's like when corporations do art contests that have a reward for the first place winner far lower than the cost of labor to participate. Except with no reward.
