In any case, turns out giving people the choice of whether to do the terrible thing or just walk away is much less impactful than just telling them they're doing the terrible thing and then making them do it

wait, neither game gives you a choice in the bad thing? Spec ops has some sneaky choices but the major bad actions are forced

the end of Spec ops is a 3 way choice between death, death or more mindless murder. theres no real choice in terms of what the ending is supposed to mean about the journey, just a slightly different punctuation mark

I mean, Obama was President when the game's events ostensibly took place same reason TL oU has an enforced quarantine order go into effect on the entire state of Texas when a contagion is suspected and why Pacific Rim has proactive Jaeger construction & only a wall later

I like how the obvious problem with the concept of the Wall is clearly demonstrated in that movie Like, unless the Wall is actually totally indestructible, it can never do anything but buy time -- no matter how good it is, the kaiju will just keep attacking it until it breaks

It's not actually doing anything to kill the kaiju, and the kaiju is a singleminded enemy that will never get bored and leave before it's killed as many people as possible So the Wall with no weapons and no Jaegers is just a tremendous waste of money

Kind of like enforcing a lockdown but not actually making a vaccine
