wait, neither game gives you a choice in the bad thing? Spec ops has some sneaky choices but the major bad actions are forced

the end of Spec ops is a 3 way choice between death, death or more mindless murder. theres no real choice in terms of what the ending is supposed to mean about the journey, just a slightly different punctuation mark

its not like dishonored or bioshock where the good and bad endings are fundamentally different and therefore kinda undercut eachothers development

hot take: the Dark Side / Light Side endings of KotOR are both Good Endings

that's because Star Wars, more than most other franchises, puts a lot of effort into making its villains work in a narrative way and also because you are already a villain so you can follow the traditional villain arc or a redemption arc, both of which are well trod

also also because Star Wars is an ongoing saga so a dark ending doesn't feel like an "alternate" path but the beginning of the next story which is why one of the canon movies is literally a prologue to another one of the canon movies, and everyone dies

Jedi Academy is a good example of a Star Wars game where both endings are compelling and provide a sequel hook, and arguably the DS one is more interesting (it sets up that Kyle will have one last adventure in which his own apprentice Jaden will be his greatest enemy)

Of course, the problem is they were mutually exclusive and they'd have to pick one to make an actual sequel, which they never did
