The sneering at "millennial priorities" embodied by the avocado toast meme seems to just be resistance to the idea that it's perfectly rational, if a goal genuinely seems unattainable, to just pick a different goalhttps://twitter.com/RandiFoorDalton/status/1259644566254346247 …

Somewhat deeper point: if society you live in makes your life goals unattainable, there are only 3 possible choices: 1) try to fight it and get depressed when you fail to change anything alone 2) change your life goals 3) leave the society for some more conductive to your goals

I'm going with "try to fight it but realize that it takes a LOT of energy to overcome society's inertia, so accept that it's going to take many generations to steer it right" and "change my personal life goals"

i apply it very, very sparingly, but once in a while i'll pull the pin on "having children is selfish" and dive for cover

I'd fight tooth and nail to have a kid, I'm ready. But I'd fight for a good upbringing, not simply spitting out a child, and I simply do not have the money. Why would I ever want to bring a kid into meager means? If you want us to be trad, we're ready, just fucking pay us more

Moralizing elder: "I'd fight tooth and nail to start a family and provide for my kids no matter how hard it was" Drug trafficker: "Which is PRECISELY why I decided t" Moralizing elder: "NOT LIKE THAT!"
