The symbol I keep coming back to from "Parasite" is the flood. The early part of the film keeps visually banging on the idea the home of the Kims is low, a sub-basement, and the home of the Parks is high, in the hills. And then it shows us what that literally means when it rains.

A metaphor suddenly becomes incredibly literal as the water literally flows downhill. The film *follows* the water downhill and shows us a human disaster happening at the bottom, while the people up top aren't aware anything even *happened* except some inconvenient rain.

Yeah, and the next morning they were marveling at what a beautiful day it was after the rain.
