Perhaps it is the curious public health professional in me, but could it be that they really aren't thinking it through? That "they say 6 feet so, let's do this thing 6 feet apart" without thinking critically?

I think their logic is more akin to people "cheating" on a diet.

I mean, I recognize that these are adults, but this pandemic is not being particularly amenable to maintaining critical thinking skills after 8 weeks with cranky children (of which i have none).

There exists "caution fatigue" in professionals dealing with workplace hazards. It's something that is often addressed in my own job. It's no surprise that it happens to lay people. That said, we don't make a celebration of lax workplace standards.
