American college student here, we we're forced to go home. Homes which fan out across the entire political spectrum. I know people who are facing the exact problem Lavery observed, even if they aren't in a gender studies class.

Indeed. This seems a rhetorical tool like "the classroom." If she said that we discuss things in "the classroom" would you be Just Asking Questions about why she's talking about "the classroom" rather than "my specific classroom"?
