Also, I just... I just... Maybe they were paying their way through uni with jobs and then *SOMETHING HAPPENED* that meant they had to move back in with mum and dad and hope their savings can continue to pay for the course?

So are you saying they accept their parents financial support & then lie to them about what they're studying? How very grown up. In the UK kids get student loans as well as jobs if they want to be independent. Yes, it can be tough.
