Yeah - and I think you can trace back the roots here, at least through the Tea Party response to Obama and the intensity there. Possibly back to 2000, I think. This pushes the issue forward a lot, but the Unum in the motto has been weakening.

What's messy is that it's not really state-by-state; most states are pretty sharply divided internally, too, with near-random sorting based on local majorities.

Even if we win in November, I have to wonder what effect it could possibly have when Trump’s electoral base will inevitably view everything a renewed democrat government does as an attack, or illegitimate. They’ll just sit in their media bubbles getting lied to, getting angrier.
