It stuck with me for a long time when someone explained "orangutan" is just Indo-Malay for "forest man;" and that a lot of languages from places where apes/monkeys are just "around" just name them like wilder 'cousins' to man... -
...centuries before Western theories of primate evolution were a thing. Almost like on a long enough timeline of diverging evolution this is how "your rowdy dick neighbors" end up as "feral pests but with thumbs"
