Having grown up in the non-US Anglosphere, I consistently overestimate US living standards, and I'm honestly not sure why.

It's because everyone thinks they know what the US is like from TV and movies, which are consistently inaccurate in specific ways The one everyone jokes about is how even poor people in expensive cities have giant apartments so you can film stuff in them more easily
