Like it wouldn't bother me so much if it were the actual anniversary of the movies coming out or an actual date from within the story of the movie but of course it isn't It's some fandom joke someone made at some point that got out of hand

I looked it up and Star Wars fandom, which has existed for more than forty years now, didn't even start celebrating "Star Wars Day" on May 4th until 2011, after people on Facebook started making it into a thing in 2008 Thanks Facebook

75 years ago on this day the Nazis in the Netherlands, northwest Germany and Denmark surrendered to the Allies. After five years of Nazi occupation my homeland was finally free. I love Star Wars. But May the Fourth is the day I remember the price of freedom, not a fantasy.

Yeah and it's also the anniversary of the Kent State shootings in the US

Similar vibe from Northeast Ohio, where May 4th is the date National Guard troops fired indiscriminately into a crowd and killed four students at Kent State University, fifty years ago today.

I actually didn't realize today was the 50th anniversary And they're trying to make us spend it watching The Rise of Skywalker
