They also use terminology like "Spear of Longinus" though

Which still, to me, demands the answer of whether in the Evangelion universe, Jesus was an Angel and Longinus was using an ancient Roman Eva unit, or what

I think it was more just named after the biblical artifact for symbolic reasons. Roman soldiers didn’t have mecha.

My own headcanon is very much that actual literal Christian doctrine and mythology have nothing to do with the aliens The tragedy happens because delusional humans couldn't handle this shocking revelation that the truth of the origin of humanity was aliens

And honestly so might some of the more monsterous ones if they got a chance. All the ones that really fuck up the kids mostly just seem to trying to figure out humanity’s deal but the only way they can communicate (and the people they try to) aren’t good for that.

Yeah the thing with Shinji getting kidnapped into that prison dimension was entirely because the Angel was trying to understand his mind and talk to him rather than just kill him right away

There's an irony there, that just as Instrumentality is the Children of Lilith (at least the SEELE masterminds) craving what they think the Children of Adam have, the perfect peace and fulfillment of unity, the Children of Adam are fascinated by what we have in return
