The use of Evangelion for marketing in Japan is baffling, but I am honestly unsure if it is any more baffling than the predominate use of Star Wars villainy and fascist imagery for marketing here.

It kind of does feel like it's going in a John Birch direction with Kaji working for the Japanese government as a mole and discovering that SEELE has lied to their host nation and all that
