The use of Evangelion for marketing in Japan is baffling, but I am honestly unsure if it is any more baffling than the predominate use of Star Wars villainy and fascist imagery for marketing here.

I mean, in fairness, is it really "globalism" when the globe has been accidentally reduced to like a third of what it is now anyway? Like, Australia is gone, everything in the Southern Hemisphere is.
