This is especially funny in the UK as surgeons (having historic roots as barbers) typically take back the title of "mr" or "ms" once they reach consultancy (most senior position), which takes over a decade in training and work at least.

The rejection of the doctor title by some surgeons, once they became eligible for it, is one of the most interesting things I came across while researching the traditional gentlemanly professions.

It goes back to the Hippocratic Oath, where he made physicians swear not to perform surgery for kidney stones because it wasn't their job
