Sex and romance are neither the same thing nor entirely separate and that's really the problem with both the split-attraction model and everyone who aggressively opposes it.

I still think "spectrum" is a kind of unhelpful way to look at this most of the time. A lot of people are invested in being offended at concepts rather than by the offenses people commit.
