Did you just learn about the term "diminishing marginal utility" and think it's some kind of universal law of economics that applies to everything man Fucking A There can be both diminishing AND INCREASING marginal utilities (or disutilities)

Just like there are both economies and diseconomies of scale You don't know which one it is until you actually look at the situation

You didn't even think this through, disutility means going in the opposite direction of utility For something that has a generally diminishing marginal utility, taking it AWAY has generally INCREASING marginal DISutility

I.e. if going from having $0 to $50k changes your life more than going from $50k to $100k, then once you do have $100k, taking away the first $50k hurts you less than taking away the second $50k Because it's the same thing, it's the same graph going in the opposite direction

There IS such a thing as diminishing marginal disutility. The first lash of the whip contributes more pain than the tenth, etc.

Whether this is true of deaths is debatable, but if we're talking vis-à-vis the economy it strikes be as highly likely.

The belief among the worst of the "reopening" activists that the only at-risk population is those old retired useless eaters is morally reprehensible, literal Nazism, but more than that it's NOT EVEN TRUE

Do you know who's going to be included in that death toll if it spikes and spikes quickly? The doctors and nurses themselves, who, regardless of their age or previous health status, absorb a viral load many times higher than the average exposure

The doctor who originally blew the whistle on COVID-19 died of it a few weeks later, and he was 34 and previously in good health What happens when the medical system starts to shut down because everyone in it is getting sick or quitting? How will the Dow react to that?

It's generally young, physically strong people who work in slaughterhouses Why did Trump have to order the slaughterhouses stay open at gunpoint? Because they were becoming a hotbed of serious infection because of people being forced into repeated re-exposure

You don't think that's gonna have an effect on "the economy" if it just keeps going? You think all of the bad news about people not buying shit or not showing up for work is just the result of softhearted governors trying to save Grandma in the nursing home? Good fucking Lord

Positively, because as there are fewer doctors to pay healthcare profits will go up Positive results will NOT go up but when has the DOW given a shit about the purchasers of a service? It’s just about the profit wrung out of the system
