Yeah it's confusing because it's "Begin, Reagan, Ayatollah's in Iran" but he's talking about Reagan running for President in 1976 (the first really serious time he did it after his brief campaign in 68), when the "Reagan conservative" brand was really created

And I guess I'd defend the song by saying he wrote it in order to counter the Happy Days idea of the 50s being a peaceful idyllic time when nothing serious was going on Like everyone in the 80s already had a stereotype of the 70s as racked by bad news
