It's one of the biggest contradictions in China right now, where the Maoist-era policy to eliminate housing insecurity once and for all, forever, has now translated into a Dengist status quo where housing is extremely insecure and there are huge waves of homeless people

(Because of the perverse result of household registration, of *assigning* you to a house and a parcel of land, and then saying that if you want to leave it because the jobs moved elsewhere you're essentially an illegal immigrant in your own country)

We have so much food on a daily basis, we throw out huge percentages of it because it spoiled. When's the last time we bulldozed a suburban neighborhood because we had too many houses.

Ya this seems to be a problem with Market based housing, China is an interesting mix of market socialism and recently heavy on the market and hopefully soon heavier on the socialism
