We're not arguing about Tolkien's whole life or how he was as a human being, we're arguing about whether he made up Orcs based on a negative stereotype of Asian people, which he clearly says he did

Context matters asshat. This single excerpt is all you have to claim that Orcs are a Racist stand in when EVERYTHING ELSE doesn't support this claim. Not his life , not his beliefs , not his inspirations , nor the damn lore itself.

Lol nothing about his life whatsoever says he wasn't racist against Asian people LotR is his weird project to try to create a new essentially British mythology that wasn't polluted by external influences the way the King Arthur legends were

First off there is nothing to even remotely support it beyond this excerpt. Everything else indicates Tolkien despised Racism in general. And the goal you are proclaim LotR was something Tolkien said he initially wished to do , but he had long since abandoned the idea.

Even if that were true, people who "despise racism in all its forms" and try not to be racist can still, you know, fuck up But I really doubt this was just fucking up and being racist by accident, or why would he get so pissed off at making Orcs into bird people

Like if Orcs aren't supposed to be human at all then why does it even matter Of course they can have beaks and feathers, it's a fantasy world with magic, isn't it

Because it's HIS fiction. Orcs were Former elves , humanoid beings deformed and made evil by a dark god. He got really irritated when people suggested things about his work that were not true , even down to the fact that Balrogs aren't supposed to roar.

Cool, so the stuff he was really attached to includes the stuff that was racist, which means there was some degree of intention to it, even if it was retroactive

The "orc were elf" is mostly fan interpretación. The "like the mongols" Is how Tolkien describe them.

Well, more precisely, the backstory of how Orcs were created comes from the Silmarillion, which Tolkien never considered finished or had published in his lifetime The nerds take this to be "canon" but it's unclear Tolkien actually did, he had a bunch of other ideas

"Orcs are corrupted Elves" has a lot of disturbing implications, considering the always-evil nature of Orcs in the actual books He apparently considered either making it so they were beast-men with only the semblance of souls or that they were fallen Maiar in humanoid guise

But, again, the actual backstory is not given in the published version of The Lord of the Rings and it's clearly not considered important by the characters in that book The relevant fact about Orcs is they're universally evil and must be driven out and exterminated
