Having an awareness of the hobby that goes back more than three years helps. Shadowrun's been using them as a 100% explicit stand-in for black Americans since 1989. AggieCon had a panel about fantasy races as stand-ins for real ethnicities back in 2015. Ain't new.

First off there is nothing to even remotely support it beyond this excerpt. Everything else indicates Tolkien despised Racism in general. And the goal you are proclaim LotR was something Tolkien said he initially wished to do , but he had long since abandoned the idea.

Even if that were true, people who "despise racism in all its forms" and try not to be racist can still, you know, fuck up But I really doubt this was just fucking up and being racist by accident, or why would he get so pissed off at making Orcs into bird people

Furthermore Tolkien ALWAYS pointed out , " . I cordially dislike allegory in all its manifestations, and always have done so since I grew old and wary enough to detect its presence. " His fiction is meant to be just that , fiction. It is NOT a representation of real life.
